Belle is no dumb blonde and she takes after her owner and is a fond fan of all things protease. Her next project is revolutionary.
Project: Olfactory Proteome Adaptation in Response to Bacon Stimuli
Objective: To identify proteins involved in extreme scent detection of breakfast foods.
Methods: Nasal swab proteomics pre- and post-bacon exposure.
Expected Outcome: Discovery of the “sniff-activated signalosome.”

Rae was adopted in 2021 when she was 1 or 2 years old. She is quite nervous but can be quickly won over with play. When she isn’t being a second reviewer, she enjoys making biscuits and cuddling.
Project: Feline Phosphoproteome Dynamics During Naptime
Objective: To investigate changes in phosphorylation patterns as cats transition from loaf mode to full sprawl.
Methods: Time-resolved LC-MS/MS during REM and non-REM cycles.
Expected Outcome: Identification of “purr-modulated” kinases.

Luna is a 3 old lab-mix adopted from Fostering Hope (Red Deer, AB). She can get quite nervous around new people, but is quite cuddly after warming up. She loves the park and eating grass (as close as it gets to a dog-cow mix).
Project: Proteomic Mapping of the Butt-Sniffing Interface
Objective: To identify scent-detection proteins and social signaling factors involved in canine introductions.
Methods: Shotgun proteomics and field observations at the dog park.
Expected Outcome: Elucidation of the molecular basis of mutual respect.

Oscar is a 6 year old Aussie who's one true love is his ball. He's his happiest when all his favorite humans are together.
Project: Post-Bath Proteomic Response and Towel Evasion Mechanisms
Objective: To profile stress-induced proteins triggered by the word “bath.”
Methods: Proteomic sampling before, during, and after blow-drying.
Expected Outcome: Identification of the elusive “soapy resistance factor.”
